KnowledgeNet: New Global Knowledge Resource Available to Members

MALAYSIAN INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTANTS PARTNERS WITH ACCOUNTANCY ORGANISATIONS WORLDWIDE TO DEVELOP NEW GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE RESOURCE FOR MEMBERS

Beginning 2 October 2006, a new electronic resource will be available to MIA members to assist you in locating the information you need to make well informed business decisions, provide high quality work, remain competitive, and keep pace with the changing marketplace in which you operate.

Members will have access to IFACnet.com – a KnowledgeNet for Accountants in Business developed by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) together with member bodies, including MIA, that have recognised expertise in developing guidance and products for financial, management and other professional accountants in business. This new KnowledgeNet, spearheaded by the IFAC Professional Accountants in Business (PAIB) Committee, is designed to facilitate the sharing of global knowledge resources among IFAC member organisations in order to better support professional accountants.

IFACnet.com will feature a powerful Internet search engine that will yield high quality, targeted and relevant results from more than a dozen websites of accountancy organisations. This will include good practice guidance, explanatory articles, tools and techniques, and continuing professional development information produced by MIA, IFAC and other professional accountancy bodies from around the world.

Through an easy to use interface, developed by a leading-edge technology company, IFACnet.com will provide one-stop access to information on a wide range of topics, including strategy, management, budgeting and planning, corporate governance, risk management, and professional development. Accountants in the public sector could also benefit from searching for information and guidance on such topics as costing, performance management and reporting in the public sector. Members will find this new resource helpful not only in staying current with developments in the accountancy profession, but also for continuing professional education and knowledge development.

Like other search engines, IFACnet.com will scan websites for key terms and phrases and deliver the results in order by relevance. Unlike other search engines that search both accounting and non-accounting sources, IFACnet.com will focus specifically on websites that provide information developed for accountants in business, and its search engines will provide the most relevant information possible. An advanced search function will also be available to refine and further enhance search results.

There will be no charge for using IFACnet.com, although certain search results may identify documents and publications available for purchase.

Additional sources of information will be added and the breadth of information increased over the next few months. If there is any other information you would like to see made available through IFACnet.com, please email
paib@mia.org.my.
